Teen Mental Health

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support given to someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is available or the crisis resolves.

MHFA strategies are taught through evidence-based training programs developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia and delivered by accredited MHFA Instructors nationwide.

Teen MHFA courses equip high school students in Years 10–12 with the knowledge and confidence to support their friends. These courses were developed in response to research showing that many young people are more likely to share their concerns with peers before approaching an adult.

At Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School, Teen MHFA is delivered to Year 10 students. Parents and carers are notified prior to the course commencing and have the option to withdraw their child if they choose.
