Our History

A Proud Legacy in the Goldfields

Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School (KBCHS) has deep roots in the Goldfields, evolving from the original Eastern Goldfields High School, which opened in 1914. Today, KBCHS proudly operates on that very same site, continuing over a century of public education in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. For decades, the original school shaped generations of students before a major restructure in 2005 led to the creation of two separate institutions: KBCHS (Years 7–10) and Eastern Goldfields College (Years 11–12).

A New Model for Student Success

In response to the changing needs of the community, the former Eastern Goldfields Senior High School was split into two specialised campuses. Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School officially opened in 2006 with a focus on supporting early secondary students. This structure allows the school to deliver targeted academic and wellbeing programs tailored to the unique needs of young adolescents.

Growing with Our Community

Today, KBCHS is a vibrant, future-focused school with a strong emphasis on student engagement, wellbeing, and achievement. We provide a modern, inclusive learning environment where all students are supported to succeed—both in the classroom and beyond. From academic excellence to leadership opportunities and extracurricular involvement, we ensure that every student is equipped with the tools and confidence to thrive.

We are proud to continue the legacy of public education on the same ground where it all began.
